KARACHI (Urdu Times)(Report pirbux Noonari)KARACHI The SMBB Institute of Trauma had the honor of hosting two esteemed trauma experts from the United States, Dr. Mayur Narayan and Dr. Zara Cooper, along with a delegation from Aga Khan University Hospital. The visit served as a significant opportunity for knowledge exchange and collaboration in advancing trauma care in Pakistan.

Dr. Mayur Narayan serves as the Division Chief of Acute Care Surgery & Chief of Trauma at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He has previously been on the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center, bringing a wealth of experience in trauma and acute care surgery.

Dr. Zara Cooper is the Director of the Center for Surgery and Public Health at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. She is a leading advocate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in healthcare and has made significant contributions to trauma and surgical care research.

During their visit, the delegation toured the Emergency Department of SMBB Institute of Trauma, led by Dr. Azer Shaikh, Senior Emergency Medicine Consultant & Head of the Emergency Department. Dr. Shaikh provided a comprehensive overview of the trauma system, emergency response protocols, and the institute’s role in delivering life-saving care to critically injured patients.

Following the tour, Dr. Azer Shaikh delivered a detailed presentation introducing the Trauma Center, highlighting its capabilities, challenges, and future aspirations. The session was further enriched by the insights shared by Dr. Narayan and Dr. Cooper, who discussed their experiences in trauma management and patient care.

A key highlight of the visit was the announcement by Dr. Mayur Narayan regarding the launch of the TEAMS (Trauma Evaluation and Management Skills) Course, accredited by the American College of Surgeons, at the SMBB Institute of Trauma. This initiative is expected to enhance the professional development of trauma care providers in Pakistan

The SMBB Institute of Trauma extends its gratitude to Dr. Adil Haider, Dean of Aga Khan University Hospital, for his valuable collaboration and support in facilitating the visit of the foreign delegates. Special appreciation is also extended to Dr. Sabir Memon, Executive Director of SMBB Institute of Trauma, for his exceptional leadership and commitment to advancing trauma care in Pakistan.

This visit and collaboration mark a significant milestone in strengthening trauma education and healthcare standards in the country, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to excellence in emergency and trauma medicine.
