Pakistan Workers Federation (PWF) Stands United on International Child Labour Day 2023 to Eradicate Child Labour and Ensure the Rights of Every Child.
On the occasion of International Child Labour Day 2023, the Pakistan Workers Federation (PWF) renews its commitment to the eradication of child labour and the protection of the rights of every child in Pakistan. The PWF recognizes the urgent need to address this pressing issue and calls upon all stakeholders to join hands in creating a safe and secure environment for children to thrive.
International Child Labour Day is a reminder of the immense challenges children face globally and the importance of concerted efforts to eliminate child labour in all its forms. The PWF firmly believes that every child deserves a childhood free from exploitation, forced labour, and hazardous work. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that children are given opportunities for education, development, and a promising future.
In Pakistan, child labour remains a serious concern despite significant progress in recent years. The PWF recognizes the efforts made by the government, civil society organizations, and international partners to combat child labour, but stresses the need for continued collaboration and more vigorous enforcement of laws and regulations.
As a leading workers’ Federation, the PWF pledges to advocate for the rights of workers and, in particular, for the elimination of child labour. We will work tirelessly to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of child labour on the physical and mental well-being of children and the long-term consequences it has on society as a whole.
We encourage everyone to actively participate and contribute to these initiatives.
The General Secretary of PWF Ch. Muhammad Yaseen calls upon the government to strengthen legislation against child labour, increase funding for education and social welfare programs, and improve enforcement mechanisms to ensure the effective implementation of existing laws. Additionally, the private sector has a crucial role in promoting ethical business practices and providing their supply chains are free from child labour.
On this significant day, the Pakistan Workers Federation reaffirms its commitment to the rights of every child. We stand united with other organizations, unions, and individuals in our unwavering determination to end child labour and create a society where children can grow, learn, and prosper.
