I can confirm that “we discussed this incident with the Swedish charge d’affaires in Islamabad and expressed our concerns about Islamophobia and Quran burning. Our dialogue with Sweden will continue.” We will continue to express our concerns with the Swedish government. Pakistan has brought the matter to the OIC. And as the coordinator of the OIC in Geneva, we have raised this issue at the UN Human Rights Council, where we have raised concerns about Koran burning, Islamophobia, and the deliberate targeting of Muslims and the sentiments of Muslims around the world. A special discussion has been called for.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, the spokesperson said that Pakistan is celebrating the Holy Quran Day, we strongly condemn the heinous acts of publicly burning the Holy Quran in Sweden and other European countries. We believe that such deliberate incitement to discrimination, hatred and violence under the guise of freedom of expression cannot be justified. The recurrence of such Islamophobic incidents raises serious questions about the legal framework that allows hate-based acts.
As a leading member of the OIC, Pakistan has demanded an urgent discussion on this important issue in the United Nations Human Rights Council. We also call for credible and concrete measures to curb the growing incidence of xenophobia, Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hatred.”

Before the protest, the man had told news agency ‘TT’ that he wanted to highlight the importance of freedom of expression. This is democracy, if they tell us we can’t do it, it’s in jeopardy.
In the presence of a heavy police presence and surrounded by people protesting the practice in Arabic, the man shouted through a megaphone to dozens of people. Addressed the crowd.
The man threw the Holy Quran on the ground and set fire to the papers while waving the Swedish flag.
