Karachi (Urdu Times) Interim Minister Health, Sindh, Dr. Saad Niaz held a meeting with Dr Irshad Memon, DG Health, Dr. Saeed Qureshy, VC DOW University and Dr Khalid Memon RMNCH among others to discuss the trainings needed by Community Midwives in the province.
The meeting was informed that so far there have been 12 batches of community midwives that have been trained and graduated from the community midwives training courses. As of now there is an estimate of over 8000 community midwives in the province. An estimated 2500 CMWs are employed with PPHI who are in charge of their trainings and refresher courses as well.
Minister Health Sindh, Dr Saad Niaz suggested that there needs to an assessment conducted on what the requirements are in the province for community midwives. Once it has been identified where midwives are needed they can be transferred there.
In order to ensure that the community midwives are up to date on their training and skills capacity, they will be given a test. Depending on the results of the test they will either be given a refresher training course to improve their knowledge and skills, or if they score high enough, will be employed at a health facility where they are most needed.
Minister Health added that it should be mentioned what are the objectives that are required from the CMWs and are they adequately trained to deliver those objectives. If they are not then they need to have revised training – Dr Saeed Qureshy also suggested to use the Electronic Skills Scheme that was developed by him to better train the CMWs from now on.
